6 Proven Strategies to get a Good Client Testimonial that Sells! + Where to Showcase them [updated 2023]

HH Squarespace Blog Post 34

I know, since Covid-19 hit us, online shopping became part of our lifestyle.

One, it is safer than going outside, and two, it’s super convenient! You can just scroll for hours anytime and anywhere. Personally, when I want to buy a product, I make sure to check its reviews. Even if a product has tons of 5 stars if I see a bad review because it’s damaged or what, I immediately look for another store. That’s the power of product reviews, and in services, testimonials.

I believe there’s a thin line between testimonials and reviews.

Testimonials are gathered by the business owners, while reviews are collected by a third-party operator, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. To put it simply, reviews can be positive or negative.

As much as money is one of the essential things in this world, we can’t buy love. Same in business, only hard work and successful projects can earn the hearts of our clients.

THAT’S WHY FOR TODAY’S EPISODE, WE’LL TALK ABOUT HOW TO PROPERLY GET TESTIMONIALS FROM YOUR CLIENTS THAT WILL SURELY DRIVE SALES TO YOUR BUSINESS. LET’S DO IT!

FOR YOU NOT TO GET LOST:

6 Proven Strategies to Get Good Testimonials from your Clients

STRATEGY #1:

REACH FOR YOUR CLIENTS

There’s nothing wrong with messaging your clients for feedback about their experience with your service. You can reach them via their social media or by sending emails to them. I’m sure most of your clients will be delighted if you’ve asked them for a quick chat.

STRATEGY #2:

CHECK FOR COMMENTS IN YOUR BLOG POSTS

Be sure to regularly check the comments on your website or your blog posts. Just take a screenshot of that comment, and you can showcase that to your future customers!

PRO TIP: Gather more comments in your blog posts by writing at the end of your blog post like “Have some of our ideas helped you? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below!” This simple act can encourage engagement with your audience.

STRATEGY #3:

PROVIDE A FREE PRODUCT IN EXCHANGE FOR A TESTIMONIAL

Most bloggers or business owners offer freebies or give away in exchange for a sincere testimonial. And there’s definitely nothing wrong with that! For example, suppose you’re a foodie blogger. In that case, many restaurants will offer you a free dine-in experience for an exchange to review their menu. That’s also the same way for your clients; giving freebies can encourage them to write a testimonial for you.

STRATEGY #4:

SET UP GOOGLE ALERTS AND SOCIAL MENTIONS

As social media is like an online diary of a person. There’s a great chance that if they’re happy with your service, they’ll post it online. You can find those reviews by setting up email notifications via Google Alerts. When you have these reviews, ask the authors if you can use their feedback or story on your testimonials page.

STRATEGY #5:

ASK FOR VIDEO REVIEWS

Platforms like Youtube and Tiktok dominate social media nowadays. Whether it’s a 30-minute or a 2-minute video, people won’t bother spending half their day watching videos as long they are entertained. That’s why you can ask for video reviews (even IG stories!) if you have clients that frequently use those social media platforms.

STRATEGY #6:

PLACE A TESTIMONIAL FORM ON YOUR WEBSITE

I’ve talked about having a form for gathering testimonials in this blog post, 5 Different Ways to Use Form Block on your Squarespace Website - No, Contact Form is not one of them. This is the easiest way where your clients can write feedback on your service.

Now you know how to get testimonials from your clients, yay!

But before dwelling on the next topic, I’ll show you first a trick where you can use it as a checklist to maximize the potential of each testimonial.

THE THREE-POINT TEST

Is the Testimonial?

#1: Genuine

#2: Specific

#3: Visually Appealing

If yes, then that’s a go!

So where you should put testimonials on your site?

#1: DEDICATE A PAGE ON YOUR WEBSITE

You can dedicate a page on your website where it showcases your client’s testimonial. In that way, people can freely browse the validation they need.

#2: MAKE BLOG POSTS

This is one of the perfect ways to showcase your client’s testimonial. By making blog posts, people may feel like they are reading stories about the experience between you and your customer. In that way, people can create connections with you.

Examples: Client Showcase with Hannah Notrica - “Since launching my website is a huge spike in my email list” & Client Showcase with Julianne Foster “I feel proud of my website for the first time!”

#3: VIDEO TESTIMONIALS

Depending on your content, video testimonials are also great to incorporate into your website. Thus video testimonials can significantly have an impact on your website.

Monitoring and Managing Testimonials Effectively

1. Regularly Request and Update Testimonials

Make it a habit to reach out to your clients periodically to request fresh testimonials. Time-limited incentives, such as discounts or exclusive offers, can encourage clients to provide updated feedback.

2. Create a Testimonial Repository

Set up a dedicated space to store all your testimonials. This repository can be a digital folder, spreadsheet, or even a customer relationship management (CRM) system. Having all your testimonials in one place ensures easy access and organization.

3. Segment Testimonials

Categorize your testimonials into different segments based on product, service, or any other relevant criteria. This enables you to tailor your testimonials to specific target audiences.

4. Request Permission

Always ask your clients for permission to use their testimonials. Make it clear where and how you plan to use their feedback and ensure they're comfortable with it.

5. Showcase Diversity

Highlight a diverse range of testimonials. Different voices, experiences, and backgrounds can appeal to a broader audience. It's not just about quantity; it's about showcasing a spectrum of satisfied customers.

BONUS: FAQ

  • Yes, you can and should use both testimonials and reviews. Testimonials are typically gathered directly from your clients, while reviews come from third-party platforms like Google or Yelp. Combining both can give potential customers a comprehensive view of your business's reputation.

  • Regularly updating your testimonials is essential. Consider refreshing them whenever you receive new positive feedback from clients. Keeping your testimonials current helps maintain trust and credibility with your audience.

  • The best way to ask for a testimonial is by making a personal request. Reach out to your clients through email or social media, express your appreciation for their support, and kindly ask if they'd be willing to share their experience. Make the process as simple as possible for them.

Bonus content!

I firmly believe that successful clients sell much more than happy clients. Our goal as business owners or service providers is to deliver our craft smoothly to our clients. In that way, they also become successful on their own own. That love that I’m talking about earlier is like that; the product of hard work and giving our best is the trust our clients give back. And that trust is so powerful; it can break or make your business. But of course, we can’t please everyone.

THAT’S WHY AS LONG AS YOU KNOW THAT YOU’RE DOING YOUR BEST, YOU’RE DOING THE RIGHT THING.
